What a ride! 1500 miles in about 4 days.. I left on Friday at 2PM and headed toward Bishop CA. The first three hours were hell.. 118 degrees (47 C) stuck in traffic sitting on an oven.. only highlight was this guy on his Harley riding with his dog!!
15N, 215N and finally 395N. This hwy is great.. straight with amazing views, NOBODY around.. Mmmh I was so damn alone that I didn't figure that at one point I was doing 130mph without even noticing it! (I love my FJR!).
I got into Bishop at about 9PM and I stayed with this lovely lady that I met on couchsurfing.com (highly recommended!). She made pasta, we had wine, smoked cigarettes and talked about our lives in her backyard until late at night. Here she is, Christine!
Next day 395N for other 150 miles.. Here the scenery changes, as you start going up in the mountains you can feel the elevation and your ears start popping.
In this little town I also had a chance to see a real rodeo!
how typical is that?
I cross the Sierra Nevada into Nevada, Carson City and back west into California again.
In Nevada I even got a ticket for doing 35 in a 25 zone.. come on officer give me a break... no not another one please! damn it!! that cop was such an a*hole, definitely he had nothing better to do than stop someone for doing 35.. i really hope he's gonna be stuck on his toilet with diarrhea for the next 2 weeks!!! thanks for ruining my vacation. Hopefully it won't affect my (already awful) driving record since it's not in Cal..
anyway got to Tahoe and took it easy.. had a nice lunch on the beach, took a little nap
and I left at about 6 on the 88 West ( super nice!) down to Stockton.
anyway how beautiful is my bike?? :))))))
I got in Stockton at around 10 at night, I was kinda falling asleep while I was riding the last half hour.. I met my other couchsurfing host Jane and we went out with her friends. I didn't get to see much of that town, except the Campus, the campus and.... the campus, oh yeah couple bars as well. hey Jane thanks for letting me crash on your couch!
Spent the night there and the day after I really wanted to go back east on hwy 79 little Dragon between Coulterville and Mariposa, but somehow I got lost in the crop fields, and the next sign I saw I was already 60 miles out of the way... :(
anyway from there to San Jose, visit some family and finally Monterey and the awesome 1 south..
THE ONE hwy, what a road. Hands down, it's the most scenic and perfect road for a ride. it's SO nice! The best part is from Monterey to Cambria, over 100 miles of curves, panoramic views, nature, ocean... the only problem I think cars shouldn't be allowed there! I know it sounds silly but cars can take the 101 or the 5! The one is made for bikes..MADE FOR BIKES! It pisses me off that I have to be stuck behind an happy family for 20 minutes.. (very few opportunities to overtake).
enjoy some pics and videos:
Below, just a little remix of all the videos I had of the ONE. My editing skills are pretty basic, but I was actually listening Daft Punk while riding and it was sounding soooo good. enjoy
Spent the night in Atascadero and on Monday back to San Diego..
I was supposed to meet with other riders on the way but at the end nobody came so I was alone for 4 days.. absolutely no regrets! I would do it again tomorrow if i could.
